VILLAGE AMENITIES:
HARROLD PLAYING FIELD

Across the Carlton Road from the main entrance of the Country Park is the Playing Field, an area of about one hectare and which incorporates a cricket ground and a football pitch. In the south eastern corner is the Pavilion, adjacent to Carlton Road. Diagonally opposite is the Cub Hut,on the northern boundary behind Number 12 in the High Street.

The land was previously owned by local builder, Edgar Clayson and was acquired for the benefit of the village in 1963 through the foresight of Arthur Lyman, Luke Underwood, Gerald Drage and Ian Tusting.

The land and facilities are managed by the Harrold Playing Fields Association which is a registered charity. Over the years many fund-raising events have been held, including the popular Merrie England Fayre of the 1960s and 1970s and Horse Shows held at Town Farm. More recently, there has been an annual Family Fun Day held on the field.

The Cub Hut is currently used by the Harrold and Carlton Cub Pack and Odell Scouts. It was originally built as changing rooms, but was replaced by the new Pavilion built in the 1970s. This was extended in 1985 and a new bar was installed, named "Toffee's Bar" in recognition of the considerable time that Peter ("Toffee") Thompson had put into its construction. The Pavilion was further refurbished in 1988 and it is a registered club with good facilities available for hire for private functions.
